Nearly two years after Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson first teased his plan to executive produce a film about Sean Combs, the long-anticipated project finally has a premiere date. The four-part limited series, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, will debut worldwide on Netflix starting December 2.
Directed by Alexandria Stapleton, the documentary brings together a powerhouse production team that includes Jackson, Stacy Scripter, David Karabinas, Ariel Brozell, and Brad Bernstein as executive producers. It’s a collaboration among House of Nonfiction, G-Unit Film & Television, and Texas Crew Productions — three forces known for bold, truth-telling storytelling.
At its core, Sean Combs: The Reckoning aims to unmask the many sides of one of music’s most influential yet polarizing figures. Diddy. Puff Daddy. Love. The names have changed, but the mythos has only grown. The documentary promises an unflinching portrait of the mogul whose ambition and vision revolutionized hip-hop through his empire, Bad Boy Entertainment. Under his watch, careers of groundbreaking artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Danity Kane soared to global fame — forever shaping the sound and span of hip-hop culture.
But here’s where the story takes a darker turn. Former collaborators, childhood acquaintances, and past employees begin to paint a very different picture of Combs — one marked by control, excess, and hidden secrets beneath the shimmering facade of success. Using unseen footage, exclusive interviews, and testimony from those who once stood closest to him, the series peels back the gold-plated layers of a self-made empire to expose what might have been festering just below.
Director Alexandria Stapleton has described the project as deeply personal and timely: “Being a woman in the entertainment industry during and after the Me Too era, I’ve seen firsthand how power shapes behavior. When Cassie came forward with her lawsuit, I kept wondering how she found the courage to confront someone as powerful as Sean Combs,” she said. “As a filmmaker, I realized this wasn’t just a celebrity scandal — it was a cultural stress test. Are we really ready to face how we treat allegations against our icons?”
She added that this isn’t merely the story of one man or one set of accusations. “It’s really a mirror held up to society,” Stapleton explained. “It’s about how we, the public, place our celebrities on pedestals and what that says about us. I want this documentary to shake people awake — to remind everyone that behind fame, there’s still fallibility, humanity, and consequence.”
Interestingly, while 50 Cent has been famously vocal online about his feud with the Bad Boy Records founder — often mocking him through memes and posts — his on-screen role in the documentary remains uncertain. Will Jackson himself appear, or will he stay behind the scenes as executive producer, allowing the narrative to unfold through others’ voices? For now, Netflix and the producers haven’t revealed who exactly will appear on camera.
Jackson has described his motivation for the project as rooted in authenticity and accountability. “Through G-Unit Film & Television, I’ve always focused on telling real, unfiltered stories,” he said. “I’m thankful to everyone who spoke up and shared their truths with us.
