Initially, the 25-year-old appeared to be struggling, trailing by a set and a break against the Austrian qualifier Kraus, and seeking the physiotherapist's assistance twice.
However, she demonstrated resilience, winning just two more games in a 1-6 6-4 6-1 victory.
Jones expressed her relief post-match to Sky Sport in New Zealand, stating, 'I'm actually really relieved that's over.'
She acknowledged the physical and mental challenges of facing a top-tier player like Emma Navarro in the first round, especially under the hot Auckland conditions.
Jones, who broke into the top 100 last year after winning two WTA 125 titles, has a rare genetic condition called Ectrodactyly Ectodermal Dysplasia (EEC). This condition affects her hand and foot structure, with three fingers and a thumb on each hand, and three toes on her right foot and four on her left.
Despite the challenges, Jones battled through, saving nine of the 13 break points she faced, advancing in just over two hours.
She attributed her success to adapting to the day conditions, noting the quicker pace compared to night matches.
Jones will now face the Chinese seventh seed Wang Xinyu in the semi-finals.
In other news, Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek helped Poland secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the United Cup mixed team competition.
Swiatek, ranked world number two, dominated with a 6-3 6-2 win over Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands, following Hubert Hurkacz's victory over Tallon Griekspoor.
Poland will face the hosts, Australia, in the next round.
