In my youth, dance was my all-encompassing passion. Every spare moment was dedicated to pursuing a spot in a prestigious performance company. Little did I know, a different kind of love awaited me beyond the world of dance.
After graduating from school in Brisbane, I embarked on a career as a performer, traveling the world and eventually landing my dream job as an assistant creative director at Cirque du Soleil. But fate had other plans.
As the pandemic hit, my world came to a standstill. I found myself back home in Noosa, feeling lost and uncertain. It was then that I turned to dating apps, seeking a distraction from the monotony.
Among the many matches, one familiar face caught my attention—Tom, a high school acquaintance. Despite our different social circles, there was an undeniable spark. We connected, and I soon realized that our paths, though divergent, shared a common thread of ambition and self-improvement.
But here's where it gets controversial... I initially declined his invitations, questioning our compatibility. After all, I was an unemployed circus performer, and he worked in finance. How could we possibly connect?
However, on that fateful fourth invitation, I took a chance. And it was then that I discovered a love that went beyond work.
When Tom opened the Uber door for me, it was more than a simple gesture. It was a revelation. His politeness and consideration left an indelible mark on me. I realized that in a world where such kindness is rare, Tom was a gem worth cherishing.
And this is the part most people miss... Our relationship, though unexpected, was a perfect blend of passion and understanding. We supported each other's creative pursuits, and together, we created a life beyond the confines of our careers.
Despite my initial doubts, our love story ignited like a wildfire. Tom's dedication knew no bounds; he traveled from Brisbane every weekend to be with me in Noosa. The time we spent together opened my eyes to a love that was both wild and profound.
Soon, I found myself pregnant with our first child, and my career at Cirque du Soleil beckoned me back. But for the first time, I chose love and family over my work. I declined the offer, knowing that my true happiness lay in the arms of my growing family.
As a soon-to-be mother, I embraced a new life, creating and performing with the support of Tom and our growing family. Together, we produced Cirque Bon Bon, a show that showcased my passion and creativity. Even through the challenges of an emergency C-section, Tom was by my side, pushing me towards my dreams.
First loves are special, and dance will always hold a place in my heart. But Tom and our family taught me that love comes in many forms, and it is through these experiences that we truly live.
