Something magical is about to hit the airwaves in Grand Island. Get ready for a full season of nonstop holiday spirit, because GI Family Radio is turning up the festive vibes with an exclusive Christmas music takeover! But here’s where it gets interesting — this isn’t just another seasonal playlist. It’s a total transformation.
Starting Monday, December 1, GI Family Radio will step away from its usual Rock simulcast with “Thunder 97.7/99.7” (KMTY Gibbon and K259CZ/KRGI-HD3 Grand Island, NE) to launch something truly merry. The station’s translator will begin broadcasting nothing but Christmas classics under the cheerful new banner, “All Christmas Station 99.7.” From timeless favorites to modern holiday hits, the airwaves will shimmer with festive sounds all the way through December 25.
GI Family Radio’s CEO, Alan Usher, shared his heartfelt vision behind this special programming shift. “Our goal is to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for families across the community. We want our listeners to feel the season’s joy every moment they tune in — this is our way of giving Grand Island a gift that lasts all month long.”
It’s a familiar tradition in radio — many stations flip to all-Christmas formats as the holidays approach — but not everyone agrees on the trend. Some say the 24/7 holiday music brings people together; others feel it oversaturates the airwaves too early. Does non-stop Christmas music delight you, or do you prefer a balance of regular tunes during December? Drop your thoughts below and join the debate: is Grand Island’s newest holiday station spreading cheer, or taking festive enthusiasm a step too far?
